What Is the Bio-terrain?
Introduction
Plenty of companies develop supplements that address the symptoms of illnesses and diseases. But Logos Nutritionals does something different—we design formulas that aim to prevent disease and illness by systematically restoring and maintaining the bio-terrain.
By taking a holistic approach to your health, you can support various systems in your body instead of simply focusing on disease management.
So what is the bio-terrain and why does it matter?
The human biological terrain (bio-terrain) is the cumulation of all the systems in the body that nourish, maintain, and protect us, especially the microbiome in the gut.
The bio-terrain concept originated in France over one hundred years ago. At that time, there was a conflict between those who believed that disease came solely from germs and others who believed that a lack of balance in the body caused an internal milieu that allowed germs and disease to thrive. Louis Pasteur—who famously discovered penicillin—advocated for the germ theory, which ultimately won the day. Whereas Claude Bernard took the bio-terrain approach, which leads us to believe that a properly nourished body can heal itself.
How to support the bio-terrain
You can restore and maintain your bio-terrain by adopting a proper diet, exercising, and supplementing your diet with herbs, enzymes, and other nutrients.
Here are five areas related to the bio-terrain that you can focus on to renew your health and achieve long-lasting results.
The gut
An estimated 80% of the immune system resides in the gastrointestinal tract, otherwise known as the gut. When the biochemistry in a person’s gut is out of sync, they may experience poor immune health as well as altered brain chemistry, increased inflammation levels, and auto-immune reactions.
Because the gut plays such a central role in our health, we must optimize our body’s ability to digest and assimilate nutrients and efficiently eliminate wastes and toxins.
Logos Nutritionals Gut Health & Digestion supplements do this by delivering a broad range of digestive enzymes and beneficial bacteria to the gastrointestinal tract. This replenishes the gut, which helps make it inhospitable for harmful bacteria and other pathogens, restores digestive efficiency, reduces systemic inflammation, and eliminates nutrient deficits.
The liver
The liver is primarily responsible for detoxification. Our livers need extra support because most of us are exposed to more cumulative toxicity than our ancestors were, causing our detoxification systems to work overtime and suffer chronic oxidative stress. Luckily, our Detoxification supplements can support the liver and increase its production and turnover of glutathione, the human body's quintessential antioxidant.
The thymus gland
The thymus gland is the master gland when it comes to immunity. By supporting the health of the thymus and other glands, you can restore your immune system and the bio-terrain’s ability to defend the body from external threats. Our Immune Health supplements contain important ingredients such as glandular extracts, which deliver gland-specific nutrients and information encoded in the RNA and DNA of glandular proteins.
Bone health
Maintaining Bone & Joint Health is an important part of supporting the bio-terrain. Many of the stem cells that protect and repair our systems are born in our bone marrow. Our bones are not only responsible for producing these cells, but also for storing alkalizing minerals that our bodies need to maintain healthy pH levels in the blood and other critical systems.
Amino acids
Finally, we can supplement a healthy diet with amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and are essential to a number of the body’s functions. To see our selection of amino acid supplements, check out our Athletic Performance page.
By making healthy dietary choices, exercising regularly, and supplementing your diet with the right formulas, you support your bio-terrain and achieve optimal health.
